Chitrakoot : A fire broke out in Majra Shukla Purva of Atrauli village of Raipura police station area on Friday afternoon due to unknown reasons. The fire took a formidable form with strong wind. The villagers somehow tried to control the fire, but by then the fire had engulfed many houses. On receiving information, four fire tenders reached the spot. The fire line was cut by breaking the thatch of the tiled houses. The fire is still burning in the houses. So far about two dozen houses have been burnt. Officers have reached the spot.

The fire in Omprakash Shukla's hamlet engulfed the entire house with strong wind. The flames were so strong that no one dared to get closer. As soon as the information about the fire was received, villagers from nearby villages also reached for help. Several houses of Rammulami's family have been burnt by the fire. The household items kept inside the houses have been burnt to ashes. After receiving the information, DM Shubhrant Kumar Shukla, SP Atul Sharma, SDM Manikpur Pramesh Srivastava, CO Mau and station in-charge Raipura reached the spot with the team. 

The SDM has made arrangements for the affected families to stay in primary and junior schools. Seeing the fire rising, three big and two small fire fighting vehicles were called. Big vehicles could not reach the narrow streets inside the majra. As a result, the fire is being controlled with the help of small vehicles. Affected families say that the fire caught on so fast that they were unable to remove any household items from their homes. The damage from the fire is estimated to be in the millions. The SDM said that the fire is under control. Teams are engaged. Hundreds of villagers are also engaged in extinguishing the fire. Damage assessment will be done after the fire is extinguished.
